Happy New year everyone,
Ευτυχισμένο το Νέο Έτος, was all you could hear at my grand parents house this morning (and my house last night). It means happy new year in Greek.
This morning about 11ish, all of my mums side of the family went to my grandparents house for a little new year get together. It has sort of become a tradition in our family now.
Another is to be the first to step into the house with your right foot, and you will get money. I won this year, yay!!!!!
My γιαγιά(which means grandma), bakes all of the individual families a Βασιλόπιτα, it is a type of cake, where a coin is hidden, you cut up the cake and then everyone crushes there slice to see if they got the coin. If you are lucky enough to win the coin you are given money (when you think about it this is getting a little expensive). But anyway about the Βασιλόπιτα, my slice had the coin in it, and i have collected a small fortune.
The final tradition in our family is not a greek one, it is just something we like to do. Scrachies!!!!!! My παππού (grandpa) bought my cousin Ali, my brother Lukas, and myself 10 scrachies each!!!!! I won the most money in the scrachies so i was over the moon with what I had won today day.
This was a small part of my new years day............ Happy new year, and I hope you have a great 2012
